biography

…Marcelo Vinhas took his first steps into the ‘90s electronic music scene in the underground hollows of Porto Alegre (State of Rio Grande do Sul). He began DJing in local vinyl stores and came to be known  as the man who could move the dance-floor of Bagé’s night life scene between 1996 and 2002. He started touring other cities in Rio Grande do Sul and in 2008, he created a DJ course to galvanise the local music scene.

He moved to Florianópolis in the state of Santa Catarina in 2010, where he partnered with the talented Felipe Sosa (DJ, producer and percussionist) to create the project “Groove Up”. The year 2013 then brought him to Porto Alegre, where he engaged with the DJ’s brotherhood and Syndicate of Rio Grande do Sul.

From the early ‘90s to the 2010s, Marc’s contribution to the expansion of electronic music across these two Brazilian states was considerable. However, as a visionary in his area, he set his sights on an international career and packed his decks for Dublin, Ireland in 2016. He was recruited by Function Entertainment as a DJ and artist associate and produced his first track that same year. In May 2018, Marc’s long-term dream of a party label “Marc-V and Friends” was born.

An ambassador of Brazilian electronic music for a generation in progress, Marc breathes innovation. He likes to keep his fans guessing about his latest projects until he takes over the pick-up and shakes up the dance floor again. The DJ commented:

“When I was very young, in the South of Brazil, I discovered the power of music, and it has been the centre of my life ever since. Sharing the stage with local DJs or big names in the scene opened my mind and brought maturity to my career. With a career spanning over 20 years in the industry, I feel that I made the right choice in marching to the beat of my own drum. I love having the freedom of building unique sets for each gig that include House, Tech House and Techno.

I view now as the perfect time to begin a new cycle in my career. The transition from Marcelo Vinhas to Marc-V is a new stage. I will never shed my roots but want to pave the way for a new stage to begin. Music completes the moments we live in; it is the product and the environment at the same time and I want to be a part of that”.

Marc-V sits at the epicentre of the Irish electronic music scene in Dublin, and he is one of the most renowned and instantly recognisable Brazilian DJ’s active in Ireland, representing the underground house and techno on a wider stage.

Twenty years in the making, music excites him now as much as it did in the beginning and he has no plans to stop any time soon.
